Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 23, 2026

AffordWise ("AffordWise," "we," "us," or "our") is a personal finance app operated by Donahapp. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the AffordWise mobile app (the "App"), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using the App, you agree to the practices described here.

AffordWise helps you track income, expenses, debt, savings, and investments, and can optionally connect to your bank accounts through Plaid to pull in balances and transactions automatically. We know this app touches sensitive financial information, and we've written this policy to be a real description of what happens with your data — not boilerplate.

1. Information We Collect

Account information

  • Name and email address when you create an account.
  • Your password, which we store as a one-way cryptographic hash — we never store or can recover your plaintext password.

Financial information you enter yourself

Anything you add manually in the App, including but not limited to:

  • Income sources and pay schedules
  • Fixed expenses, debts, and monthly obligations
  • Savings goals, investment accounts, and contribution history
  • Giving, tithe, and charitable-commitment settings
  • Budget categories and spending entries you log
  • Inputs you provide to optional tools such as the Mortgage Qualification estimator, the Life Insurance planner, the Decision Engine, and the Real Estate search

Bank account information (via Plaid)

If you choose to connect a bank account, AffordWise uses Plaid Inc. to securely retrieve your account balances and transaction history. When you connect a bank, you enter your banking credentials directly into Plaid's own secure interface — AffordWise never sees, receives, or stores your bank username or password. We store the account and transaction data Plaid returns (encrypted at rest) so the App can show your real balances and detect recurring transactions. You can disconnect a bank account at any time from within the App, which stops future syncing.

Subscription and payment information

Subscriptions are purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play and managed using RevenueCat. Apple and Google process your payment details directly — AffordWise never receives or stores your card number or other payment credentials. RevenueCat sends us your subscription status (e.g., active, expired, trial) so the App can unlock the right features.

Device and usage information

  • A push-notification token, if you enable notifications, used to send reminders (e.g., upcoming bills, monthly check-in prompts).
  • Basic technical data such as app version and IP address, which we log when you connect a bank account as part of a consent/audit record required for that feature.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To operate the App's core features — budgeting, cash-flow projections, debt payoff simulations, the 5-Jars breakdown, and monthly check-ins.
  • To generate optimization suggestions (for example, flagging idle cash or a debt that could be refinanced) based on the financial data you've provided or connected.
  • To send you notifications you've opted into, such as bill reminders or monthly check-in prompts.
  • To maintain the security of your account and detect fraudulent or unauthorized access.
  • To respond to support requests and, where applicable, connect you with a licensed professional you've asked to hear from (see below).
  • To comply with legal obligations.

We do not use your financial data to train third-party advertising profiles, and we do not sell your personal information.

3. How We Share Your Information

We share information only in the following circumstances:

Affiliate disclosure

Some suggestions shown in the Optimizations screen (for example, a savings account with a better interest rate or a debt-refinancing offer) link to third-party financial products. AffordWise may earn a commission if you open an account or product through one of these links, at no extra cost to you. This is disclosed directly on the Optimizations screen. Clicking a recommendation takes you to the third party's own site — we don't automatically share your financial data with them just by showing you the recommendation.

Requesting a consultation

If you use the Life Insurance, Mortgage, or Real Estate tools to request a callback or consultation, the contact details and preferences you submit (such as phone number and preferred time) are shared with the licensed agent or partner assigned to follow up with you. This only happens when you actively submit that kind of request.

We may also disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of AffordWise, our users, or others.

4. Data Security

  • Passwords are stored as salted, one-way hashes.
  • Bank connection tokens and other sensitive credentials are encrypted at rest.
  • All traffic between the App and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS).
  • Bank connections require your explicit, logged consent before any data is retrieved, and every connection/disconnection event is recorded in an audit log.

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard safeguards.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account and financial data for as long as your account is active, so the App can keep showing accurate history and trends. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we're required to keep certain records for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes.

6. Your Choices & Rights

  • Disconnect a bank account at any time from the Assets section of the App.
  • Turn off notifications in your device's notification settings or in-app preferences.
  • Access, correct, or delete your data by contacting us at the email below — we'll verify your identity and respond within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Delete your account at any time — in-app from Profile → Delete Account, or from our Delete Account & Data page if you no longer have the App installed. This permanently removes your profile and all associated financial data from our active systems.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA/CPRA, including the right to data portability or to object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.

7. Children's Privacy

AffordWise is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. International Users

Your information may be processed and stored on servers located in a different country than where you live. By using the App, you consent to this transfer, in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the App or by email before the change takes effect. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
